ENDURANCE HELP- Are you a fan of beets? After hearing about their great benefits, I think you will be! Beets are not only packed with vitamins and minerals, fiber, and folate...but their main endurance benefits come from the dietary nitrates.
Nitrates in beets can enhance endurance by increasing levels of nitric oxide which act as vasodilators. Vasodilators open up the blood vessels wider, improving blood flow to the working muscles. This allows you to increase time to exhaustion and improve VO2max. For athletes, drinking beet juice may gain you a slight competitive edge.
Now don’t go start a Beet farm like Dwight Schrute from the Office. Look for Beet juice at your local grocery store. Cooked beets have a similar effect, but beet juice is more effective. The taste of straight beet juice isn’t the best, so you can dilute beet juice concentrate with water or add a small amount of another fruit juice to make it easier to drink.
